SALT, FAT AND SUGAR REDUCTION
3663 First for Foodservice is aware of the importance of a healthy diet, and as the UK's leading foodservice wholesale distributor, acknowledges its vital role in encouraging healthier eating within the foodservice industry.
Positive steps are being actively made to achieve this. 3663 continues to work closely with industry bodies and continually monitors product ranges and their nutritional contents to comply with guidelines and standards.
The industry-wide focus on reducing salt is currently being addressed. 3663 has completed phase one of its plans to reduce salt levels, where technically possible, in all own brand products without comprising on eating quality or product safety. Our marketing literature and our clear nutritional breakdown on our packs displays these changes and also refers to specific levels of fat and sugar.
At the end of November 2005 an average salt reduction of 26% was seen across all own brand products and all specific targets met, with some exceeding their original targets. Salt reduction has now been incorporated into a larger healthier eating strategy to target salt, fat and sugar.
All product categories are to be targeted over the next 3 years. Salt reductions will strive to achieve the original aim of a 50% reduction. Note is being taken of the FSA's model and these targets will be achieved where technically possible. Depending on the product category, 3663 is working towards achieving either the illustrative average values in the salt model, where possible or the salt targets. Where these illustrative average values differ from Hungry for Success or the FSA's nutrient specifications for processed foods used in schools, 3663 will aim to meet the lowest figure. |
